It’s the one year anniversary of Violet Sky!

I had a few goals when I created this blog, which I don’t think I ever really articulated.

I go through spells with my use of social media, where I feel upset, or guilty, or irresolute, or whatever, because I can tell that I experience negative effects from it. I can’t even remember whatever set me off on May 7th, 2024, but it must have had something to do with Reddit. I unfollowed a bunch of high entertainment/high drama subreddits, as I realized that the entertainment was still negatively impacting my mood overall. I also remember feeling disgruntled about my almost daily yelling into the void, but a void owned by a company I already knew wasn’t great.

I remember thinking to myself that I should go back to blogging, which I’ve been doing since high school, so that at least my yelling into the void would be going into a space I own, rather than contributing to the profits of a corporation. The bulk of my participation on Reddit was on financial communities, so that became my focus here.

In any case, my primary goal was to continue interacting with the internet, but doing so in a space that I own. This was successful! I’ve kept this blog going, and held myself to a semi-regular posting cadence, for a whole year. A secondary goal was simply to get myself off of chattering on Reddit every day. It has been moderately successful. My last goal was to chronicle some of the very cool and fun things that I am experiencing. This has also been pretty successful, which makes this feel like a net win, considering how impulsive the move was.

So happy anniversary to this blog, and thanks to those who read it it. I’m having a great time writing it. 😄
